Indeed, although I've found the latest batch of Gonzalez 3.5 significantly harder than the earlier ones, more on par with a V12 4.

I'd kinda wonder if possibly they changed their criteria for strengths? Or, it could just be the box of reeds you got. Because even if the reed density was increased by the crop, it would just get a higher strength designation.

It isn't like they are measured by thickness of the reed afterall.

I'm glad to see Xilema reeds represented in the last chart! I had yet to see a really good comparison chart for them. The Xilema Professional strength C's I ordered play WONDERFULLY, almost perfect right out of the box. I am a little surprised to see that they aren't quite as strong as a regular blue box Vandoren. I usually like a solid, if not a tad strong, 3.5 (of the blue box reeds) strength for Bb reeds. But the Xilemas were kind of an impulse buy, and broke in really well- I started with 4 of them and played each for one peice in band each day. Now I'm rotating between those 4, using a new one each practice. I would probably be willing use any of them for performance (well, maybe not #3 in my rotation, but its a darn good reed anyways). They play absolutely brilliantly, the best reeds I have ever tried.

Good resource, thanks! But I take issue with the ratings for Marca - the box of 3's I bought were closer to a Vandoren 2.5 than the 3.5 suggested by these charts. Any thoughts?

I think these charts are only a good guideline, and a variance of 1 or so strengths should be expected (after all, there's darn near that much variance in most boxes of reeds once you start playing them ...)
