 Sex With a Robot
Author: Ken Shaw 2017

Now that I have your attention ...

The Joys of Sex, a Fringe Festival musical (or perhaps a play with music) is moving to Off-Broadway. To the original 3 musicians in the pit, the author wants to add a Sinfonia machine. The twist is that he claims that he wrote his music specifically for the Sinfonia, which is therefore not replacing live musicians.

Here we go again.

In vitro, with a recording of Robert Marcellus' Mozart Concerto playing in the background?

You go to the Parthenon, for that sort of genesis.

For my money, if I found out the pit had a jukebox - I would agitate for a refund. I can rent recorded music on my home theater.

Maybe we can replace all the broadway shows with just a film of the people singing along to canned music. That way we can just watch the broadway "movies" and they'll never have to worry about whether the lead will be sick or not and if the understudy is ready and willing. Why not? We're halfway there already . . .

GBK.....what a "turn" on events!

Synon....You have a "home theater?"....what's your address? I'd like to come by with my David Allan Coe DVD and hear what he sounds like in surround sound....

How cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am by no means condoning caned music, in fact all my professional endeavors would prove the contrary... But it does take a musician to play a Sinfonia doesn't it?

My biggest problem with "The Machine" of any sort, is the quality of sound that is passed off as good - as if we don't hear the difference! I would hope that as the technology grows, we as musicians can use these tools to express ourselves and not use them as a crutch for lack of talent.

I am happy to have the unions to lobby for real musicians, it is hard to find live shows to go to nowadays and if Broadway falls to "the machine" - we would lose quite a lot. I would hope that the unions would be able to argue their point effectively without dictating artistic expression.

When they invent a time machine there will be a waiting line of musicians for the 1928 express.

Arriving just in time to witness the rise of the Vitaphone...(one o' them Greco-Latin coinages meaning "live sound"...!)
