Has anyone used a 'Mediball'? They're just like big blow-up balls, tough enough for you to sit on. They're used in gyms for muscle toning and stretching.
Today in my lesson, my teacher let me use one and because I had improved posture which opened up my breathing aparatus, I instantly got a great sound!
And so I went out straight after my lesson, purchased one and practised on it. I'm so excited that now, every day, I get to practise in comfort with a great sound! And, I'm sitting on it now, at the computer. It's great, and really comfy!
I'd highly recommend anybody who whishes to improve their playing through enchanced physical factors, go get one!
Has anyone else had experience with these? What other different ways of sitting or different styles of chair/stool helped or have found to be effective?
=)

My good friend has one and now I'm gonna have to force her to let me borrow it and give it a go!

And if you roll backwards off of it and stab yourself in the back of the throat with your mouthpiece?

How are you doing this? Sitting on the thing practicing? We have one, but I don't know if I'd let my students try it, insurance reasons and all....LOL

I know the mediballs because my wife is a Pilates trainer, and uses them in her sessions too. I think it's great that you're enthusiastic about all this. And I agree that a good posture has a lot of effect on sound production and breathing.
However, I don't believe that just sitting on one of the balls will automatically improve everybody's posture. It's still possible to sit with a very bad posture on the balls. I would take what you've learnt about your posture, and try to apply it to sitting on a normal chair. After all, you can't really sit on the mediballs in your recitals, and you'll struggle to fit one of them into an orchestra pit! Not to mention the dangers involved if you get too carried away practising your Nielsen concerto...

Not to mention that Aussies are supposed to sit Down Under. A bit of a squeeze!
