I'm having a very hard time finding contra alto reeds to use. Bari sax reeds are too narrow and the nearest music stores do not carry the correct strength. Rico 3 contra reeds are the only ones that have worked, but I can't find anymore. Vandoren contrabass reeds didn't work. Does anyone know of any other brands that might carry them?

Only thing I can think of is trying an on-line site to order from, but you have to get a box. VanDoren 3s work for me on contra. What kind of mpc you use? What kind of contra? Just curious, cuz I was able to use Bari reeds on mine. :P
What do you use on clarinet? Reeds on contra will be softer than what you use on Bb. You can also try Legere reeds. They are synthetic reeds that last a really long time. 'm sure they make contralto/contrabass reeds.
Check out www.Weinermusic.com, or woodwind and brasswind.

My contra is a Leblanc and so it the mouthpiece. On clarinet, I use Vandoren V12 3 reeds. A Rico 3 contra reed has worked great, but Mississippi Music is only stocking Rico 2 1/2 reeds right now. Those are perhaps the worst reeds I've ever put on that mouthpiece. Bari sax reeds are too narrow for the mouthpiece, unfortunately. The mouthpiece is chipped and has a crack going down the side, so a replacement is on its way.
Woodwind and Brasswind didn't have any contra reeds besides Marca, which I've never tried. I'll look for Leger, though. I heard that bass sax reeds might work too, so I might try those.
If I knew all the trouble I'd have getting reeds when I decided to play the Contra, would I still have chosen it?
Yes, yes I would.

I'm going to try bass sax reeds today, it'd help if I knew the differences between a Leblanc contra-alto mouthpiece and a Selmer.

Contra -
The Leblanc contra-alto mouthpieces are the same size as the Selmers, so Vandoren bass sax reeds should fit them, too.
The older Leblanc contrabass mouthpieces (up to around 1970) were wider and took Vandoren contrabass reeds. However, the current ones, from both Leblanc and Selmer, are the same width as the contra-alto mouthpieces.
Best regards.
