I was reading another thread earlier on this BBoard and one poster wrote "Don't you just love technology?" At the moment, no. Technology isn't always a good thing, as this proves. I think technology definitely has its place in the modern world and it is useful for so many things, from keeping food fresh in a refridgerator to typing this very message. But I think it is being taken too far. Another example is war. The technology being used in wars today is so powerful that it kills more people than older technology used to.
Yes, technology is quickly developing and in some aspects that is great news. Even we use technology in our jobs/hobbies as clarinetists. But to be honest I'd rather live without my electronic metronome/tuner and still be able to play my clarinet, even though I may not be in time or in tune.

Actually fewer nowadays, and far fewer non-combatants, but kill it does nonetheless.

Ken,
It was interesting to see "Prince" on the Tonight Show last week. He and some other well known performers are working to oppose synthetic music. I wish him well.
Regards,
Hans

Our local Community Theatre is doing "Into The Woods" and rented one of these infernal machines. On opening night it blew a relay and left the cast standing with their thumbs stuck in odd places.. Took about ten long minutes to power it up again. heh! heh!

Similar situation in our community theatre. The director insisted on the canned music to save a few bucks. On opening night, the female lead, as she always does, jumped ahead four bars. You can imagine the rest. Afterwards, she was heard to say that she thought that "box" should be smart enough to keep up. Divas!

The most surprising thing about that diva's statement is how typical it is. I wonder how off-topic it would be to have a thread of singer anecdotes?

I wouldn't worry too much about The Infernal Machine...
all that needs doing is to install Windows ME....
