I am a long time player of the yamaha ycl 62. Ilove this horn for jazz. Recently I have seen references to a ycl61..which I never heard of . Can someone tell me about its playing characteristics?

Why not try a search of th Klarinet archives? Search on "YCL-61", "YCL-62", Yamaha, etc.

As I recall, the YCL 61 was the top line clarinet from Yamaha in the mid 70's, and possibly 80's. Most of their top line instruments back then ended in 61, such as YTS61, YAS 61, YFL 61, etc. Since they made improvements, they just had to keep going higher in the number.

I understand Buddy De Franco played a YCL62 (and later 72) and maybe he still does. I gather he considered that the Yamaha combined the best features of his previous Selmer and Leblanc clarinets. Other pros have told me the same but do the Yamahas last very well over the years of playing?
