Hi,

The back of my legere reed warped after one month of use. Is there anything I can do about it?

I know that legere reeds can be adjusted like any regular reed. However it voids any warranty that might be on it. Since it's been a month I think youre warranty is expired anyway. Try sanding it flat with very fine sandpaper maybe?

PS - Wait till others chime in though. I don't want to be the one responsible for ruining your ten dollar reed. If anything, I'd at least like someone else to agree and be part at fault . . .

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
While it's possible to take a bit off, taking a lot off will cause more problems than it will solve.

Contact Legere directly and explain the problem (http://www.legere.com, a sponsor of and hosted by Woodwind.Org). Guy Legere will probably make sure things are right.

Guy Legere would definitely want to hear about it. I know him personally, and he's interested in keeping his customers happy with their purchases.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the response.
I managed to stop in time from sandpapering the back part first...heh.

Just emailed Mr Legere and hope he will give me an idea of how to solve the problem. Will update here on what he advises....

sanding the back of a Legere reed can result in pulling "strips" out of the reed... unless Guy has made a major structural change to his reeds in reccent years- my experience of this was with a 1998 vintage reed (and Guy expressed no suprise that this had been the result of sanding the back)/

Haven't gotten a reply to my email yet,

but just like to check, does anyone know if Legere reeds can be clipped with a reed clipper?

I have never had one of these reeds warp on me. I just got back from spending over 10 months in Iraq and played everyday on three different Legere reeds in weather you will NEVER EVER want to be in. But they always worked for me. I have been told that you should never make any adjustments to these reeds. Otherwise they will never work. Hope all works out for you.

yeah, chuck them out or, better still, ask for a refund

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

hmmmm.

I don't know if you should try this before you hear back from Guy, but I know that it helps to dip Legeres in boiling water for a second or two to soften them a little when they are too stiff. If they were not so expensive it might be a nice little experiment to try dipping it, then maybe immediately inserting it into one of those little reed keeper doodads to flatten it.

I don't know if that would help correct the warpage or not since I've never had the problem with mine and I've never tried it. Oh well just a thought....
I'm half crazy anyway so you might not want to listen to me ;)

I'm sure you will hear from Dr. Legere. I've had several contacts with him and he is very responsive. If you don't hear from him soon then it is probably due to him being out of the office or the email falling into a blackhole. I've had him respond to me in a matter of minutes.

Regardig the reeds, you can clip them. Voids the warrenty, but it can salvage one that's gone soft.

Yup. Mr Legere just replied...

He said there is no way I can fix a warped reed and at most is to get an exchange for it..
