I found (don't ask) a rusted Cordier reed clipper that looked like it went down with the Titanic.
A few gallons of Naval Jelly and some bench grinder/wire wheel work later and it actually spiffed itself up.
Next came the real test.....A sick V12 was the first volunteer...and...it was too small for the clipper. Then it hit me...this clipp~iere (I luv it when you speak French) is for a saxaphone reed. The clipper is only marked "#2". My own clarinette clipper is marked "C-ette in SiB".
So...esteemed raconteurs....who out there in cyber-claro-land knows anything about the history of Cordier, and their designations.
Oh yeah...sure I did the search thingie, but the topic has not been discussed in a long while, so maybe some new pearls will fall from the tree (sic)
by posting this here.

It sounds like its for Eb Alto sax reeds. I'll get mine out of my alto sax case and see what else it says on it. I have the Bb cl and Bb tenor sax Cordiers also. I find them very handy to strengthen [and renew] soft reeds [new or used] and properly shape tips. I like to "polish" [new] reed backs, so sometimes soften them a bit, I trim mine after wetting so as to avoid splitting along the grain. Mine says only "alto" beyond the mfgr's designations. I use alto sax reeds on alto clar, and tenor sax reeds on bass cl very successfully. Luck, Don

FWIW...I have a very old Cordier Eb Alto Sax reed clipper that I was given by my father's clarinet-playing friend at least 55 years ago and it was old THEN (already rusty and too dull to do a good job!). I haven't seen recent ones, so I don't know how they have evolved since then. Mine has a spring clip and a nice screw mechanism that moves the reed back and forth to get it in the right position. On the reed side it has the following: COUPE ANCHES, "CORDIER", MADE IN FRANCE, BREVETE S.G.D.G, ALTO MIb.
I have kept it all this time as an antique.
