Ah well. I guess everyone knew it was only a matter of time, but I've decided to declare music performance as a major as well. I'll be getting my associates in math very soon and now that I have a job with tuition reimbursement (UPS - not a sponsor of board), I figured I may as well just do it now. I'm already participate 'unofficially' in three college ensembles, so I figured why not just get credit for it, and get a degree out of it?

UPS? Can you get us all a deal on shipping?
For some odd reason, my dog barks at the UPS guys whenever we pass them in the neighborhood. Only UPS, though. Just this week we were out walking past a parked UPS truck, the driver got in, and my dog just went nuts. I told the guy my dog used to work for FedEx.
Best of luck on the performance degree. I admire you folks who can hack the clarinet as something more than just a fun activity. I couldn't. I've got the "change of major" forms to prove it.n

PS - BTW, that reminds that today someone asked me if I play professionally. I wasn't playing the clarinet at the time and that's why they asked (otherwise I'm sure they would have KNOWN the answer), but rather just buying reeds. I guess it was the way I spoke about the clarinet and telling him that clarinet was my primary instrument and sax was just a secondary. The music shop guy then asked if I was a teacher of clarinet or if I played professionally. I told him, "Thank you. That's very kind of you, but neither. I'm just a student at CCM." [CCM - Local community college]
We'll see if the shop orders that legere reed for me or if I'll have to order it myself.

I was thinking more on the line of keeping UPS for the day job, (with NO degree) and gigging part-time on the doubles (WITH the degree). Makes complete "professional" sense to me.

HRL I don't doubt that for a second! But I believe this is certainly a step in the right direction! Perhaps one day though I'll be able to get rid of ALL disclaimers under my posts . . . not quite yet, but one day . . .

A whole lot of us need disclaimers under our posts, but don't want to clutter up the BB. But being a music major doesn't necessarily answer the questions that life's experience teaches, and that's why we bounce things off of each other.
