 Daphnis Articulations
Author: Ben
Date:   2004-02-25 14:30

I am working on Daphnis out of the Peter Hadcick book, and the way the articulation is written 2 bars after 212 is: d slured to f# (in first beat), whereas when this theme occurs elsewhere it is articulated (196, 211, 213, etc.).

Is this a misprint on in this excerpt book, or is it the one time in the excerpt where the articulation is different? If this is not a mistake, why might Ravel have wished the articulation to be different here? It makes more sence to me to play them all consistently, but if that is not what Ravel wanted... I can play it either way, though.

Also...those who have had to play this in live auditions in the past (as I am preparing for one), what sections are most comonly asked for? I am asuming the part from 212 to the end, and the noodles at the beggining of the second suite.

The articulation at 2 bars after 212 (D5 to F#4 slur) in the Hadcock book is correct.

The 2nd clarinetist has the exact same articulation, as he slurs B4 to D4...GBK
