this has been done before! I just took a look at the 1999 thread and it looked interesting. I think that the equipment that you chose gives a insight into your personally.... maybe that's baloney, but I think that your house, car (wish I had one) clothes and your Clarinet say something about you! So here is my short list: Selmer CT Bb (on loan to a loved one) Selmer Signature Bb (weeks old) + Selmer Crystal Mouthpiece from the 40's, Kasper/Cicero (my uncles) and a Vandoren 5RVL. I use a Vandoren Optimum, Rovner Dark 1R and a Pomarico Light and some unmarked ligature from the stone age. Reeds: Vandoren V12 #3, but I'm flirting with Gonzalez FOF in 2 3/4. A Cordier reed trimer, RDG Clarinetist's Knife and Wiseman reed cases. A Seiko SP-100 Metronome and last but most important a Christmas gift from my Uncle (in the States) a basketful of Doctors Products! I would really like to hear from the "heavyweights" out there, I want to know what the pro's have and what their backup equipment is. Bed time! My Best,

plenty of Pomarico crystals....half a dozen vintage Brilharts.....nothing but Mitchell Lurie Premiums....olegature.....orginal Leblanc "L" lig......Vandoren Optimum.....3 B&H ligs..... and my favorite.....velcro ligs......sweet almond oil....cotton swabs....and the original Lazarus clarinet method.....

Not sure what it says about me ...... probably stumbling around for components for my ' dream set-up ' for swing/Dixieland music.
Clarinets: Leblanc LL, Selmer Series 9 and and Buffet International (C 13)
Mouthpieces: Ralph Morgan # 28, Vandoren 5JB and B45
Reeds: Mitchell/Lurie Premium (# 2 1/2 and 3), LaVoz (Medium) and Vandoren V12 (# 3)
I also like the big bore Leblancs and old Selmers but don't have one ... am happy with the medium bores.

Currently:
5yr old Buffet R13, Gonzalez #4.25 strength reeds, Lomax Classic A1G mpc as well as a Robert Scott 36108 facing mpc (more open than the Lomax), ligature: 49 cents from Wal-Mart's shoe department - gotta love the laces!!!
In the Future:
Same mpc and reed setup, but hopefully it will be a Bb&A set of Buffet Vintages

Clarinet: Buffet B13 (yes, these exist in Australia) - a student one but it plays oh so nicely and was owned by an old Jazz player who kept it in immaculate condition. Dead man's clarinet...but oh well!
Mouthpiece: Some buffet standard one, will upgrade eventually to a decent mouthpiece when I feel my playing standard warrants it (and when I can afford it).
Reeds: Vandoren 2s, 2.5s.
Need a new ligature one day too - this one has had it...

1. Patricola CL-7 C-clarinet (grenadilla), Woodwind K-10-M mp, Rovner lig.
2. Evette & Schaeffer Bb, made about 1965, use same mp and lig. Currently use Vandoren V-12 #3's. Also have other mp's I currently don't use.

1. Buescher student model alto sax, bought new a couple of years ago, Yamaha 4C mp, Rovner lig, any cheapo brand of #2.5 reed, including regular Rico's.
2. Conn Castle C-melody sax, alto-style neck, vintage 1923, stock mp that came with the Buescher alto, cheap metal lig, same kind of reeds.
3. Woodwind and Brasswind store brand soprano sax, bought new about five years ago, some kind of Meyer mp I found in the slightly used mp bin at a Sam Ash store about four years ago, regular (blue box) Vandoren #2 reeds, Rovner lig.

Setup of a college student...
1- Buffet R-13 Bb, just over 2 years old. Richard Hawkins "B" mouthpiece. Nice Rovner ligature that I haven't seen similar of lately (discontinued perhaps). Reeds include: V12 3.5, Rue Lepic 56 3.5 and 3.5+, Gonzalez 3.5 and 3.75.

Here is what I use:
Selmer Recital clarinet
mouthpieces:Selmer C85/120 and VanDoren 5RV (the cool two-tone one), VanDoren Optimum ligature, Zonda or Rico Royal reeds
Selmer Mark VI tenor sax
unbranded very old (i.e., I've had it > 40 years and it was old when I got it) mouthpiece, VanDoren Optimum ligature, Zonda or Rico Royal reeds
Selmer Super Action 80 II alto sax, Selmer C* mouthpiece, VanDoren Optimum ligature, Zonda or Rico Royal reeds
Plus a variety of stands and paraphernalia too numerous and irrelevant to list, except maybe for my Lee Valley oiler, which is an exceptionally useful tool. I gave one to my repair tech at Christmas and he still tells me how great it is.

This week's menu:
Eb clarinet: 1930s/40s-vintage hard-rubber M. Lacroix, with refaced old
Penzel-Mueller mouthpiece and Rovner lig; various Glotin & Vandoren #4/4.5 reeds.
Bb clarinet: Either 1930s George M. Bundy-Paris wood clarinet (extra ring and under-sliver-vent) or 1960s Boosey & Hawkes 8-10, with refaced Pomarico crystal or refaced original Bundy-Paris hard rubber or refaced no-name white plastic mouthpieces, reeds of many brands, #4 through #5.5; Harrison silver or Bonade inverted or Olegature ligatures.
Alto clarinet: 1950s/60s wood Kohlert-Winnenden, Germany with refaced original Kohlert mouthpiece, Rovner ligature, Vandoren or Marca #4 reeds.
Bass clarinet: 1950s/60s hard-rubber (one-piece body) Kohlert-Winnenden, Germany with homemade low-C extension (operated by LEFT thumb), refaced Pomarico crystal mouthpiece; various reeds (mainly Vandoren, Marca, Zonda, Rigotti) all #4; Vandoren "Masters" inverted metal ligature.

--I just found out that my alto sax Harrison lig fits my clarinet mouthpieces today!

I'm kinda shocked at how interchangable some of these ligatures are going between alto saxophone and Bb clarinet. It definitely saved me from buying an Optimum for alto sax. (just gave myself an idea for a new thread)

Clarinets Bb Buffet 1953 (the one I learned on) and 1919
Clarinets A Buffet 1904 (no center joint), 1920 and 1922 (for spare parts)
Mouthpieces, Clarion HS*(two of them), Selmer #2 (modern crystal plays like the HS*), Vandoren 2RV, 85 year old Buffet.
Boxes of 40+ year old 2.5-3 Vandoren reeds that I've yet to sort through, one box still sealed.
Ligature, does it really matter, I think these are marketing schemes......
2 Bonades one with screws up and one with screws down. I prefer my 85 year old sterling silver turned with the screws up so they don't bump into my chin now that I've finally learned how to properly blow a clarinet.

This is fun. Actually we all need a list of our stuff to present to the insurance company in case we get to playing so hot around the house that the place catches on fire. I'm a dixieland jazz player and sometimes I even get paid!
Basics:
Buffet clarinet 1979
Noblet C clarinet 2001
Spencer Alto Sax with Yanigasawa mouthpiece
2 music stands, one brand new, one is falling apart and basically needs just a little screw. Music stand light, microphone, instrument stand-holder thingy.
In the accessories department we have oodles of reeds, too many to count, but some of them are in a wooden cigar box about 100 years old from New Orleans. Corina Mild Larks it says, 8 cents each, not to exceed 15 cents. Maybe Sidney Bechet bought some of those cigars.
In the shoe box of accessories we have one bottle of Robitussin cough syrup which is actually brandy. You need to carry this in case of snake bite or hostile audiences.
My-T-Mist mouthpiece spray so I don't give myself a horrible disease.
Blockbuster card.
Two receipts from a Mexican jewelry store.
Some razor blades.
Four awfully grody clarinet swabbers.
Six clarinet grease tubes.
One unopened package of Lipease cushions but it says if you accidentally swallow one while playing, the company is not responsible for your death.
Instruction sheet for using Lipease cushions.
One D size energizer battery.
Orange container of Rug Crafters Petrolatum Lubricant.
Three free drink tokens.
Mouthpieces:
2 White Arbex mouthpieces. One works, the other doesn't play a note.
1 Imperial #4.

2 Borbeck. One badly chewed up by German Shepherd. You don't argue with a German Shepherd when it has its mouth wrapped around your mouthpiece.
1 Buffet which came with clarinet.

Well.... none.
But I have a brand new Walter Grabner mouthpiece with which to dream with. Some of you gave me the advice to get a good mouthpiece first.

Evette Scaeffer alto from about 1960 (I'm not sure this is working for me at all...)
Beechler Mouthpiece with a custom facing (Thanks to Jim Scimonetti)
Bassoon:
~55 year old Horst Moennig Los Angeles - I've just met Paul Lein, a bassoon restorer, who may help me make sense of this old thing. What a great thing it would be to have a working bassoon!

Hoping to get a new A when I decide on the right model- either an Opus II or a Concerto II in A.
Leblanc ED1 mouthpiece for Bbs, Vandoren 5RV Profile 88 (does that do anything but put more lettering on the mouthpiece?) for A.
Rovner EDII Signature Ligature for ED1 and Leblanc "L" silver ligature for Vandoren.
Gonzalez and Mozart 4s.

Bb - The 333rd Selmer 10G ever made, X series, handpicked by Gigliotti (a wonderful horn!)
A - A Z series Selmer 10G that I bought from someone online here via Sneezy!!! It was worked on by Opperman, and both Marinelli & Jacobi have asked if I wanted to sell it. LOL NICE horn. heh heh heh
Mouthpie: I have a number of mouthpieces, my current favorite is a no-name Qualite Superieure that my husband worked on; I also have a VanDoren M13 Lyre, and an Ann Arbor Kaspar (he's worked on both of these, too); I also have access to the hundreds of mouthpie hubby has in Acme bags in his OMD (Office of Mass Destruction)....
Misc: Gigliotti ligature, VanDoren V-12 reeds (either 3.5 or 4, depending on what mouthpiece I'm using).
Eefer - A Couesnon that I rescued from the garbage of my hEx's old school, he threw out three of them, and I took the one without cracks and overhauled it myself, LOL - use a Hite mouthpiece, Bondade lig.
Bass Clarinet - Buffet Prestige, Woodwind mouthpiece, Bonade Lig.
Flute: Pearl Elegante RBE, handmade with C# trill key and D# roller
Alto flute - Jupiter (would like to get one of those Pearls tho)
Alto Sax - King Zephyr; Woodwind mouthpiece, Rovner lig.

A E Sax "Lyriste" soprano. Very old, high pitch. Silver, nice, and utterly useless.
Really surprisingly good King 613 Alto sax.
Awe inspiring c. late 1940s Dolnet Bel Air Alto Sax. Rubber Link 5star or maybe 7star
Fab 1970s-ish Dolnet Bel Air Tenor. In order of volume - rubber Meyer, then rubber Link 5star or 7star, metal Link Tonemaster 7-ish.
Alexander Heinrich pearwood descant and Treble recorders. Don't play treble much. They just moo, and the holes are about 3 miles apart. Each.
Yamaha SC1000 and (ahem) a metallic red Westone Raider bass. Mmm...chipboard...

Bb - Yamaha 26II - what a beauty! someone asked me the other day if I wanted to sell it, LOL.
mouthpiece: my favorite is a Yahama 6C - couldn't believe it came with the clarinet!
ligature - Yamaha, metal, with two screws that you can loosen or tighten as you like! Holds my V tradtional 1.5 in place like you wouldn't believe.
cork grease - Yamaha soft
swab - Yamaha pull through (has a weighted end!)
polishing cloth - Yamaha polishing cloth. It's yellow and comes with it's own plastic self-sealing 'Yamaha Polishing Cloth' bag

Wooden clarinet.
Metal ligature.
Cane reed.
Vandoren optimum mouthpiece cap (plastic).
Leblanc cork grease.
Leblanc case.

Yamaha TD-2 tuner, batteries going a bit flat
K&M stand
"The Dryer Swab" swab (highly recommended, BTW)
Professor Weinberg's hydrophilic bore oil, applied with a Yamaha swab
My spare setup:
Plastic clarinet.
Fabric ligature.
Cane reed.

barrel - Yamaha - it fits my clarinet perfectly!
cap - Yamaha plastic. Black with three little holes on top for ventilation (great design!)
case - Yamaha. With red plush fur and slot for my cloth and reeds and these great (metal) latches on the outside that hold the case tight shut!
clarinet stand - K&M (nice to know someone shares my equipment, David)
music stand - Stentor. With easy slide action desk, extra wide desk rail 505mm, two music holders, AND it's lightweight, 980 gms.
now what else?

I have a R13 made in 1998 with nickel plated keys and use a Walter Grabner personal series AWS mouthpiece and a BG Revelation ligature and a Robert Scott 66MM barrel and a DEG Accubore metal bell and I use Legere #2 1/2 reeds. With this combination I have a very round dark mellow tone. My style of play is all in the low and medium registers similar to Jimmy Guifre.
Master clarinet repairman Mark Jacobi has customized my instrument to make it a classic.

Mouthpieces:
Bb/A/C: Lomax " Firebird" F1 facing, Pomarico Black Crystal "Moon" facing.
Eb: Lomax "Classic" C2 facing.
Bb Bass: Lomax "Classic" C1 facing.
Ligatures:
Bb/A/C: Inverted Silver plated Joue Jolie ligature (more for solo work). BG Super Revelation ligature (more for chamber/ensemble work).

I also play tenor sax, but this isn't the place for it.

My primary set up includes the things listed first in each list (except reeds, that always includes a plethora at any given time)
Clarinets: Evette Buffet Crampon (the line made in Germany), recently acquired a wooden Bundy from the 50s, a Vito 3 Resotone (my first clarinet, love it dearly, but it needs some leaks repaired and corks replaced) and a Yamaha student model that needs repairing (given to me by my best friend)
Barrels: Evette, unmarked wood one, Vito Resotone and a Yamaha student level one
Mouthpieces: Vintage Hard Rubber G8, my old Vandoren 2RV, and my best friend (who hasn't played since Middle School and is now 33) gave me her Yamaha Y12, which I have never actually tested...add that to my to do list
Ligatures: Rovner MKIII (LOVE), standard
Reeds: This is always subject to change: La Voz Hard, Mitchell Lurie 4, Rue Lepic 3.5+, Grand Concert Select Evolution 3.5+, Rico Plasticover 4 (odd, I know), Rico Royals (strength keeps changing), Legere 4.75 (too strong, so I did the boiling trick on it to make it playable), Bari MH
Caps: Rovner, a rubber one, a silver metal one and a plastic black one (no clue on brands
Protec Reed Case
Protec Thumb Rest Cushion
K and M Clarinet Stand (no clue on the brands of my music stands)
Neotech CEO XLong strap (for when my hand hurts only)
Corkgrease: Vandoren (but I've used plenty of other brands in the past)
Swab: two pull through ones with the weight on the end, no clue what brand, but they get better after each wash

I have a Buffet C13 International and it serves me well as a backup for when my Buffet Festival is in need of a repair. I would like to sell it but seems like there is not a huge market for that model because of the E11. I find the Festival is easier to play and is less stuffy, but with the right mouthpiece, I think the C13 can be changed.

I also have two B45 mouthpieces, an unmarked Buffet mouthpiece, a Leblanc Dynamique, a silver Bettoney Cadet model, and a Martin Freres Grand Prix model (bought for $30 at an antiques fair; couldn't pass it up!).
Almost forgot, I also have a Yamaha student model currently without pads (first clarinet), and a nice lamp I made out of a wooden Conn 17 model after my repair guy said it was a hunk of junk (would never play in tune).
