Thanks for sending me to this Grand camp, the view of the Canyon is really Sweet! It is fun but they keep us busy from Sunrise to Sunset.

Life at camp is so dull...that I have begun talking to an imaginary friend.
He also writes music, and comes from a very musical family. Oddly, his dad forgot to address a letter home to him. He knows cuz he got a copy of the letter from a clarinetist named Glenn in the next bunk.

The bourgeois at camp are quite fun and interesting people. I'm learning to conduct in the modern style. I can stomp the ground quite loudly with the cane to keep time, a skill that will undoubtedly be crucial in my future.

Well here I am at Arts and Music camp.
I am really p-ssed at that cinema nerd Koobrick. He STOLE my fanfare that I wrote for the visiting philosphofer, whatzizname...Nittchee...yeah thats it....and you know what he did!!!??? He used it for music for some big apes that throw bones around in some silly space opera he made for his film class.
Thats all they do here...and then there is that little Williams dude....all HE does is hum a bass chord dah dahhh/ dah dummmm....and goes around pretending he is a toothy fish.
I really HATE those film geeks.

Met this neat kid in summer camp. Plays clarinet real loud. Says his dad and some old wierd french guy taught him how.
He likes my compositions. Some day I will rite a nice little piece for him to play, maybe before he gets a steady job ...if I ever get a round tuit.

Also some guy named Benny Goodman (BG we call him) made up this game where we have to make up stories that composers sent home from summer camp.
Doubt this letter has anything that will appear in any of my big band compositions. Hah

Dear Mama and Papa Bruckner,
I thought I would take the time to write you all a letter during our lunch break. I am feeling fine and having a great time. Though I have to keep my letter short because two of the youngsters in my cabin, Nikisch and Schalk want to have a look at it. I am going to let them see it now.
Well, I'm back. I just showed the letter to Nikisch and he didn't like my first sentence at all. He says it's too long and I should cut it to read, "I think I will take time to write you a letter during lunch." He says the second sentence should read, "I am feeling great and having a fine time." The third sentence he would change to "I must keep this letter short so that I have time to show it to Nikisch." The fourth sentence, he says I can leave alone. I think I'll ask Schalk for his opinion.
Well, I'm back again. Schalk says the first sentence should read, "I think I will write a letter." He says I should delete the second sentence entirely and replace it with "I hope you are well." He says the third sentence is probably OK the way I wrote it in the first place since I have now asked both my friends for their opinions (but maybe I should place it second). He says the fourth sentence should be shorter but he doesn't exactly know how I should cut it.
I must say that I am, by now, thoroughly confused by all this. I really wish someone in authority would tell me what to say. Maybe Nowak or Haas can make something of it. I don't know. Gott in Himmel how I wish I could come back home to Linz,

Camp's been good. Weather's been kinda wierd though. Monday was very hot. Tuesday it was a little cooler. Tomorrow they say it's going to be cooler than Monday, but hotter than Sunday. But today's temperature isn't that bad. It's just a little bit hotter than the Tuesday, but still not quite as hot as Monday.
