value of clarinet

I have a Buffet Crampon Bb clarinet, serial # F69227. Research has told me that it was manufactured sometime in 1961. I've had it repadded and it's in mint condition. Can anyone give me an idea what it's worth for insurance purposes and what the closest matching new Buffet model is?

http://www.eBay.com would be a good place to look for current sales prices; value for insurance purposes is a different animal. The F shows an instrument tuned to A=442, and unless otherwise marked is an R13.

The "F" serial number means that the instrument is pitched at A-444, which may reduce its value for the U.S. market. On the other hand, the photo shows extra keys -- an articulated C#/G# and a seventh ring for the left ring finger, which gives a left-hand forked Eb/Bb.

The instrument looks nice. The 69XXX R-13s had a lot of variation in quality, but the best ones were excellent. Its design will be like the current Buffet Vintage model. Check the 12ths, which tend to be wide. See http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/Logs/1995/06/000159.txt .

I don't watch eBay closely, but, it should bring $700 or so. I'd insure it for $1,000.

Thanks for the info. I read the link page, but I'm still not sure what "the 12th" is... Please excuse my ignorance; I'm simply a drummer and repair technician by trade, so if this is making any reference to theory...I'm completely in the dark! Also, you state that it's pitched in A444...the other guy says A442...honestly, I've never heard of any instruments pitched in A444.

I think the Buffet comments I've seen on the "F" designation said "442-444". I've always wondered why they weren't sure . . .
