For all those that have perused the clarinet repertiore more fully than myself - do you have a favorite, "sweet" sounding (melodic), 3 minute +/- , chalumeau rich piece that you might suggest for a semi-advanced player?
Why you say? Just because - for a sudent demonstration!

I'm away from my music library right now (as I'm writing from Florida), but one or more (?) of the 6 Studies in English Folk Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams lies in the chalumeau register ...GBK

The above suggestions are two of my favorites also.
How about adding the unaccompanied clarinet solo which opens the Sibelius First Symphony?

One or two of the first four movements of the Finzi Bagatelles would do nicely and fit your stated needs.

The "cat solo" from Peter and the Wolf exposes the darker, lower tones of the clarinet's chalumeau beautifully, doesn't it?

Thanks all, I had forgotten about Stravinsky #1 and the Finzi Bagatelles and will have to dig them out - Thanks Diz, Alphie, and GBK for a new one. I want to show students that say "I've got the lower register (mastered) but nothing good is written for that one" that the repertory is rich if they wish to explore further.
