hey, fellow Aussies ...
1.00 ADELAIDE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Paul Dean, clarinet
Olari Elts, conductor
Beethoven Symphony No 1 in C, Op 21 26'
Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A, K622 29'
Sibelius Spring Song, Op 16 9'
Sibelius Symphony No 5 in E flat, Op 82 33'
That's in about an hour and a half.
Sorry, unforunately the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) does not audio stream its broadcasts (well, they do, but not the symphonic ones).
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

Hmm, well the Mozart Concerto was fine ... I only detected one slip up in the last movement but hey, it was recorded from a live performance. Paul's playing in the second movement, in particular, was sublime. The second statement of the first theme (after the development section) was so soft as to be almost ghostly ... the ASO's strings were beautiful and as soft as the clarinet. The final movement was joyous ... what's required in this really, but the horns were ghastly (flat), sigh. Paul's playing overall was carefully prepared and well thought out. Shame about the horns ... yes I know they were originally pitched in high A. Not as good as Sabine Meyer's playing last year with the Sydney Symphony ... she also used a "spurious" Mozart Clarinet ... funny really considering it's a modern "reinvention", nevertheless the booming lower notes are much more effective (if somewhat speculative).

Paul Dean is a fabulous player- i'm sorry i was not able to hear this!
last night i heard Phillip Green (NZSO co principal and general number one good guy... oh, also an aussie) play the Weber 2nd concerto.
pretty top playing- lovely tone and some great interpretive moments.

Yes, Paul is terrific, a wonder really, considering he's not American, go figure! (I jest) I like to have heard the Weber, I'm afraid I don't know of Mr. Green. The only NZ musician I'm aware of is the stunning Wilma Smith (who the Melbourne Symphony stole). She was a of the NZ String Quartet - another fine ensemble.

Phil G is a former student of Frank Celata and (nzer!) Mark Walton. He used to sub with the Sydney Symph and other Aussie groups- then we "stole" him to play in APO for a year, then he got the job as Co-Principal with NZSO.....
sssoooooooo- you got one of ours (Wilma) and we got one of yours (Phil).
