A bargain if they are telling the truth, it is in good condition, and the horn suits you. It is a professional grade instrument.

It is true. That instrument is new but I'm not sure it's condition. I'll try.

This is my choice.

1. 1991 Buffet E-13, New , Good condition, $1200

2. 1972(?) Leblanc L7, New , Good condition(if), $650

Which one do you prefer?

Bear in mind that I have a very decided pro-Leblanc bias. But here goes. The choice between pro instrument (L7) that only costs about half as much as much as an intermediate (E-13) is obvious. I'd go with the pro grade (L7).

The only reason to do otherwise would be if when you played them, you preferred the characteristics of that particular instrument.

The E13 is way overpriced.

If you don't buy the L7, I'd seriously be interested in it.

Ken -

Several years ago at the Clarinet Congress, a Leblanc rep offered to sell me L7 at an even lower price. He said Leblanc was phasing this out and bringing out a new high end model (presumably the LX2000, though I think there was also an L70). (This was before the time of the Opus and Concerto.) I tried three of them. Two were so-so, but the third was very good. However, it had some intervals that were so out of tune that it was unusable.

The moral of the story: Don't buy it without playing it first, and check the intonation carefully with an electronic tuner. If it's in tune and you like the way it responds and sounds, you have found a good deal.

Good luck.

Very good advice, Ken, I'm the proud owner of a good L7, which I prefer to comparable Buffets and Selmers, I also have an L70, nearly as good. I have heard that some L7's are mediocre, mine was selected by an expert!! I say GRAB IT , even if it needs some repair and maybe even some tuning up [by a real expert such as Ridenour]. Luck, Don

I bought L7 plus Vandoren 5RV at $620. Good deal?

I tried both instruments but I like L7 better. I don't know how good the pro grade instruments suppose to sound but L7 was better.
Woods are in excellent condition, pads are pretty good, all movements are good, tone is in even, just keys got rust(bit).

Thank all of you for good advice.

So, please help me about
1.What kind of mpc that came with L7? Is it better than 5RV?
2.Break in procedure?
3.Care instructions? Needs bore oil? How about humidifier in the case….?

Thanks again.

Cant help much on mp, bought mine used and play a Wells mp and others, BG Benny Goodman is my present favorite, and other high-grade mps IF the mp bore is same, or very close to, the barrel bore. I should think the 5RV or a B45 would be OK. As to break-in, already has by age!, but be cautious re: length of playing [for a while] and OF COURSE exposure to wide temp. differences. Its prob. advisable to brush and clean the bores with almond oil, replace poor pads and OIL the pivot points [I use key oil with a few drops of motor oil added]. On mine, the bell ring loosens in dry [winter] weather so I use a tube humidifier and at times a damp sponge or cloth. On pads, my top joint is all cork which has held up well. Cant think of more now, ask if you wish, congrats to joining a LeB club!! Don
