 "It's Show Time for Labor"
Author: John J. Moses

Linda Winer, from Newsday, has written an informative article on Broadway, the "Virtual Orchestras", and the Music Labor problems here and abroad. Check it out!

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/news/ny-ffwiner3667617feb15,0,6577931.column

Here's an excerpt from that article:

"At first glance, I might appear to be telling lots of isolated local stories about London, about Brooklyn and about the near and faraway centers of the country that the powers of Broadway, at their most delightfully grandiose, tend to clump together as "the road."

Like it or not, however, the world is shrinking. Disappearing - and I like this part - is the era when places outside Manhattan could sell Broadway shows without being helped or annoyed by the unions that protect New York artists, craft technicians, staff and, ultimately, quality."

Well I guess it's time for more street cornering.....open case.....hat upside down and sign reading....."will play for $$$"......Requests at mandatory $10.
Dedications mandatory $15.

Too bad about technology's encroachment into "real" music....but you know....it's where we are.

Went t to the Phoenix Symphony last night......Valentines concert....
first half....."moon river"...."funny valentine"...."autumn leaves" and the readers digest of "Romeo and Juliet".
Second half....was the PSO backing Crystal Gayle. I hate being a critic....
but Crystal is just "okay". Strog voice.....but no pizzaz. The PSO was the best part of the cnocert.....JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU.....LIVE MUSICIANS....
ARE THE BEST......

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap and Cheaper. Quality is no longer an issue in anything. Just count those beans, sack people and to hell with everything else. The world is currently at the mercy of accountants and lawyers. Boy, they have really added, in a positive manner, to the human condition! (irony)
