Where is it this year....and when? Who's going? I've never been...so are there a lot of people there or only a couple dozen of us clarinet nerds?
Do the wives "tag" along or is it stag? Samples of reeds and such? What can you learn? Or is it just a gathering of "wanna bes"?....

And, John, what makes you think all clarinet nerds have wives? Some of us have husbands!!

Um, I was going to go but I would also have trouble bringing along my wife as I am a single female. I'll bring along my two R-13s instead.

It's this summer at the University of Maryland, College Park. http://www.clarinetfest.org
This isn't terribly informative, I fear.

Mark will no doubt have the web site up soon for the College Park, U. of MD ClarinetFest, July 21-25, 2004, which will have details. If you are on the East Coast it is a slam dunk for airfare and the dorm rooms are quite affordable. I would urge anyone interested in hearing some great concerts, by the notables in the clarinet world, to attend. The exhibits will offer the best selection and cheapest prices available on horns and a world of accessories that you did not know that you could live without. I find that it is an annual pilgrimidge and meet old friends and renew good times. For younger players it is an opportunity to form and expand a network of fellow players and friends that will last a lifetime. Everyone must develop their own style of playing and ClarinetFest is a good opportunity to hear and explore many different styles of playing and find out what you like and do not like in the styles of the various professionals. The workshops and master classes are well worth the trip.

You can probably tell that I am a great advocate of ClarinetFest and hope that you will vote for Atlanta as the site in 2006 or 2007 (a shameless plug for my home base and the Atlanta Clarinet Association but I get no renumeration out of the effort !!).

Not me. I only host it when it's available.

Sorry Mark - I should have indicated that you would host the web site when the web site information becomes available from them - you are not the rate limiting step. The vendors have already gotten details and the general information should be forthcoming soon.

If my wife's cousin who lives in Arlington, Va (where I can reside for a week free), doesn't move to Chicago before summers' end, I plan to attend Clar Fest 04. He lives ten minutes from the White House and has a great swimming pool.........(ok, I'll stop now). Anyhow, hope to see some of you there.

I'll be there for sure, as I don't mind the 10 minute commute in the least! ;) I've never been to the event before, so I can't wait to hear more information on the website and actually experience it.

Do a search on thread names. I don't remember the title, but there was a huge thread on the topic a few months ago.

I applied to speak at ClarinetFest about my afternoon with Artie Shaw. If chosen, I am obligated to attend. The deadline was a month ago and I am not sure if no news is good news. Although I have a spouse, no way is he tagging along for this....there are some things you don't bring your husband to....class reunions, college homecomings, and conventions. He might want me to go to a model train exhibit. The joke in our family is, "Who is the bigger nerd?!?"

Hope to see you all there,

Jean

I will be driving over from Delaware. (about 2hours). My wife has elected not to come so I suppose I will stay in the dorms. She might be coerced into coming for some of the events maybe the choir at the end.
This will be my first fest..... can't wait.
