Someone told me today that the Grammy awards were on TV last night and that the program included a tribute to Artie Shaw.
I came home from a two week trip yesterday and went to bed early, so I missed it and wondered if anyone had seen it and could tell me what had transpired?

...sometimes cynically referred to as the "Deathtime Achievement Award."
Did he show to pick it up?

A tribute?...really more like a mention of his name and a showing of his picture.

Well...better something than nothing. I was also glad to see the Funk Brothers recognized.

has anyone heard the Grammy award winner for best spoken word album for children: Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf with Bill Clinton, Michael Gorbachev, and (I think) Sophia Loren? Sounds fabulous. Who was the clarinetist?

It's about time....now it is time for those boneheads at the Kennedy Center to give him his due. Unlike James Brown, I doubt he will end up in the slammer a month after the award ceremony.
