 Daphnis & Chloe Eb solo
Author: Aussie Nick

This is regarding the Eb solo in the first 2 minutes or so of the Daphnis and Chloe suite no. 2. It starts on a C (just above the staff) and is followed by a nine-tuplet, or whatever the correct terminolgy is for that. The solo then ends on the same C it started on... I am having great difficulty in keping the pitch of the C down. It is quite consistantly sitting fairly high on my tuner. The rest of the range however isn't too bad. I just recieved a Guy Chadash barrel in the mail which is 43mm in length. When I was using my friends RC prestige barrel (which comes in at about 43.7mm) the problem wasn't quite so bad. Any hints for that C?

Just to add another question... would anybody know where I could find/order an Eb RC prestige barrel which I think standard length is 43.2mm?

Pull out at the barrel more for that solo. It will affect the C more than the other notes. You can always push in again after the solo.

Will you be playing the solo off-stage?

Hmm, the top six reasons for playing an Eb solo off-stage:

6. So the crowd ... er audience... can't throw anything at you.

5. So the conductor can't throw anything at you.

4. So other members of the orchestra can't throw anything at you (or smack you if they sit nearby).

3. Piccolo players have feelings, too.

2. Proper balance.

1. A head-start.

Best regards,
jnk

This solo always reminds me of the Rimsky Korsakov Polovetsian Dance solo on Bb clarinet....hmmmm
