In the Saxontheweb forum, for any given thread, there is an extra tab to click on to, which takes me straight to the posts I have NOT read.
From there I can scroll, if I wish, back to the read posts.
Would this be possible to set up in this forum?

I don't think what I described is incorporated there, but I suppose one cannot tell until one has . The tab I describe is right beside the initial (index) listing of the thread title.

And how about original poster and last poster, which I see in some other forums?

Hmm... I actually quite like the simple unclutteredness we enjoy at this board. Though perhaps it would be nice to jump to the earliest post in a thread that you haven't read yet.

Neither.
In this board layout, the equivalent (because of not having CATEGORIES of topics) would be an additional small button next to the topic in the list of topics.
If this topic contained items which I PERSONALLY had not read in the past, then this button would take me directly to those unread topics, with no scrolling necessary. It must be done through a cookie system.

Down at the bottom of the main page with the posts, if you click the link titled "View Threads", there will be a "+/-" next to any post with replies next to it. Any reply that you have not read will have "new" next to it. So you can click on that one reply and it will bring you straight to there instead of you having to scroll down and find the one that you haven't read yet.
Is that what you're talking about?

Ah yes. That's the concept but what an extraordinarily clumsy (and slow to appear) way of doing it. Why repeat the heading ad nauseum!

Cause sometimes the heading can change. if the posters (us) were careful enough to change the heading to exactly what they're typing about, it'd be much more efficient. As you know, most threads can sidetrack, but if the poster's changed the heading accordingly, it'd be much more efficient and you'd know exactly what was going to be posted. However most people just either hit "reply to this message" or scroll down and don't take the time to change the heading (I'm guilty of this too)

Personally, I'd be wary before making substantial format changes. I've seen a forum's activity drop to almost nil after a change in format that made it prettier, more functional, and somehow less intuitive and friendly.
