I have started a clarinet choir at the highschool that I work at. This choir consist of about 14 Bbs, 1 Eb, Bass Clarinet, Eb Contra, and I am going to have 2 kids switch to Alto from Bb.
We are working out of the Voxman book for Clarinet CHoir and a Marraige of Figarro arr. for clarinet Choir. Does anyone have any pointers on music, how to arrange the seating, if I need another Eb (I hope not:) ), and so one? They are playing at a grade 5 and 6 level. Thanks

Good for you! You know, it's good to have every unique part covered for any concert. Perhaps using some good Bb players as backup for all the other Clarinets would be good. Tough, but someone has to do it. Sickness does happen.
To me, one Eb is enough (almost always is).
Nothing else to offer.
Regards,
John

bkmorton ... my advice to you, as you're the M.D. right?, make your own decisions about personnel and then if you find they don't work change them. Sounds like what you're doing is good.

I use a semicircle for my group (see link to Cambiare below for a recording of last year's group). Low instruments on the left, and sopranos on the right. My Eefer player doubles (not everything has Eb parts) so she sits in the middle. We play in "teams" A-B-C - the sections rotate parts, so we don't have the same people on first all the time, etc. and I can also keep them fairly balanced.
There is a lot of good music out there. When you say Grade 5-6, are you talking college level music? Give me an example of something they can all comfortably play, and I'll give you some suggestions.
