More detailed mouthpiece

Okay here's some better info for better advice! I'm in my 6th year of clarinet playing, and I've been section leader of the clarinets in my grade's band since 9th grade-I'm currently in 11th grade. I'm pretty good, I have a wood Noblet clarinet and I'm using a Yamaha mouthpiece right now, my instructor suggested I get a better one because it would help me play more to my ability. My current mouthpiece says 4C on it, I'm not sure what that means. I use Olvieri reeds, strength 2.5 or Mitchell-Laurie strength 3. I'm considering the Vandoren B40,B45,or M15 and my instructor said they would probably be best for me. Does anyone have advice as to the difference between these and their personal suggestions/experiences with the three. Which may be better for soloing as far as sound goes? Thank you!

IMHO the advice given earlier of just try as many different mouthpieces as possible makes sense. I have both a B40 and a B45 in my case as back-up mouthpieces. I don't think my sound or projection varies much using any of my mouthpieces - just the ease of producing that sound on any particular day.

And try a bunch of reeds with each mouthpiece. For instance, you are playing on a 2.5 or 3 Mitchell Lurie. I don't know the hardness of these, but when I tried out the M15, I could comfortably play a Gonzalez FOF 3.5 or 3.75. While when I tried my old B45 with that same reed, I couldn't get a sound out. I needed softer reed (3.0 I think) for the B45.

Also, you may want to try a few different types of facings and find the one that suits you the best. The M15 is a fairly close-tip, the B45 is medium, and tbe B40 slightly more open. Try a few different close tip mouthpieces and a few mediums and a few opens. When you can narrow it down to your favorite (I prefer more closed than medium or open), that helps you to narrow down what next to try.
