To my horror I discovered a hairline crack on the inside of the bell of my E&S Master Model. I thought I pampered this horn but apparently I've missed something in my maintenance regimen. Any suggetions? This crisis is new to me.

1) It cracked. There was probably nothing you could do to prevent it.
2) It won't get better by itself, but it might not get worse.
3) Take it to a reputable repair person to seewhat if anything needs to be done.

Hi Denny,
A pretty dry winter in TOL I suspect. Not enough humidity in the house can cause a lot of things like static electricity, cracks in the plaster, so why not a crack in the bell?
I always use the old trick of a used 35mm film canister with holes punched in it and I place a small piece of sponge, which I keep moistened inside. Seems to keep the rings on the barrel (these loosen up pretty quick on one of mine) and bell tight.
Spring is just around the corner!!!

I never really experienced the loose ring phenom however perhaps that is cause I swab out my clarinet and then lay the swab on top of it (the moist swab that is) to help keep a little moisture in there.
Until yesterday. I switched my Evette and Schaeffeur barrel with an aftermarket barrel and the E&S was just sitting on top of my filing cabinet. I picked it up the other day to put it in a "drawer-o-stuff" and much to my surprise the two rings simply fell off. First time I've ever experienced a loose tenon ring.
Well, you have the good (good?) fortune have having a crack in the bell. And judging by what everyone says, "The farther from the your mouth, the less important it is". So be thankful it wasn't through the register tube or UJ of your clarinet like most do. GL fixing it.
