I am looking for a good mouthpiece with an open and dark sound. Right now I am playing on an R-13 w/a Genusa GE* mouthpiece. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As I understand, the Vandoren M13 mouthpiece was designed especially for the R-13; you might give that a try.

I use the Vandoren M-13 lyre mouthpiece on my R-13 and it works great. A lot of people have recommended it to me.

A long time ago, my teacher gave me a Selmer S for my R13. I never gave it any thought and have had it forever. Recently, I decided to try a new mouthpiece and found a Vandoren 5RV at a bargain price. I still prefer the Selmer - although it may be just familiarity. The 5RV seems too narrow and resistant.
I can't find the Selmer S on the mouthpiece facing charts - does anyone know how it compares dimensionally to more common ones or even head to head with the 5RV?

Hi -
I like the Selmer C85/115. It's pretty open, and I get a decent tone out of the mouthpiece (on a Selmer Series 9). Of course, choosing a mouthpiece is highly individualistic, so your mileage may vary considerably.
