Take a look at the picture. See the identical twins?

No, no, not the people. The basset horns built by Steve Fox. We don't care much about the people.

I always thought Dan Leeson looked different than that, somehow...

Weird, eh?

Are they basset horns or basset clarinets? I'm confused (perpetually).

whatever - they are beautiful

Isn't cloning illegal?

and then there was the guy who pushed his scatological twin off a cliff...
got arrested for making an obscene clone fall.

Lovely instruments. I'm intrigued about the straight bell. Does this have any advantages over the upturned bell I have on my Buffet basset horn? It seems the sound might tend to bounce off a hard surface or get absorbed in a soft one.

Glad to hear Steve is selling instruments. I am jealous of those two guys for being able to afford them. When I played on his display model at the ICA convention in 1998, it was the best harmony clarinet I had ever played on.

Speaking of Steve Fox --- I just finished my homemade bass clarinet low-C extension and, although it works reasonably well, it's SO UGLY that I wish I had followed through on my original plan three years ago of having Mr. Fox make an extension for me ---- I guess I'm just too cheap for my own good --- anyway, those twin Bassetts are gorgeous, and the two gentleman are......lucky to have them.

We've had to relinquish Steve Fox as a repairman since he's too busy building these gorgeous instruments. We had opportunity to see a pair, Bb and A, also another Basset Horn made by him and they're truly works of art.

Well,

and now I imagine how great would be a 3 dimension rotatable picture of them.
Unfortunatlely I can only produce some viewable "3 D render data" of from a 3 D CAD model, but designing the Oehler keywork on CAD could take me 2 month (40 hrs per week) of work, I guess.

The Uebel basset horn has a straight wooden bell. They may not always project so well (though that depends on the proximity to the floor, and whether the surface is hard), but the sound may be slightly more blended than with the up turned bell. I rate the Uebel basset the nicest sounding of the ones I have listened to, with the possible exception of when my mouthpiece maker played some phrases to me on my own Buffet.

Beejay--Most of the sound of any member of the clarinet family comes from the open tone holes. The direction of the bell should affect only the lowest notes.

they are so beautiful...
one question: on the Fox-site there are mentioned three bores for Fox bassetthorns: small (played with soprano mp), medium (German), large (alto-clarinet).
Someone told me : the selmer is small bore, played with soprano mp, the leblanc is alto (large bore). What bore dimensions has the Buffet basset horn and which mp is used?

I have a Buffet basset horn, on which I use an alto clarinet mouthpiece by Ed Pillinger and alto sax reeds. I don't have the bore dimensions to hand.
