What moutpiece (model and size if appropriate) would you suggest for a beginning elementary school clarinetist?
Is there a consensus view that the stock mouthpiece that comes w/ the basic Vito, Yamaha, Selmer, Buffet is less than adequate?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Tony.

The mouthpiece most often chosen which will give beginners (and teachers) a good starting point is either the Hite Premier or Fobes Debut. Both have nice "user friendly facings" which have been carefully thought out and are consistant from one mouthpiece to the next.
Of the stock mouthpieces you listed above, the Yamaha 4C is adequate, but would not be my initial choice.
Most parents will not balk at the idea of purchasing a high quality beginning mouthpiece - one that (if needed) could take the student all the way into high school ...GBK

I love the Hite Premier. It plays really well and will not cost more than $28.

A colleague and friend of mine, Brad Behn, is planning to introduce a hand-faced student mouthpiece priced very cheaply. You might want to try to get in touch with him at some point as he is a superb musician and clarinet player as well as a mouthpiece maker.

The Hite Premiere is an excellent piece, and my students enjoy them....
