 Vintage metal clarinet

I am looking to buy a metal clarinet. I know I should not buy off Ebay But I am expecting to do a complete overhaul on it anyway. As long as all the pieces are there I dont care about condition. And ebay has a vast supply of metal ones.

I know nothing about metal clarinets and which ones are the best quality that play in tune(when properly tuned and taken care of). Any suggestions on what brands or models are the best quality and what year to look for? THANKS

If you search the archives you will find lots of opinions about which were the best models and which were student quality. Information on prices a year ago is at http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=106654&t=106654
(Cut & paste. I can never remember how to herf a URL.)

[ just put a < and > around it. The instructions are in the Help/Rules link. Use the Address that's in the title bar, though - the ending # on your original link confuses the syntax. Mark C.]

Write to me offline and and I send a spreadsheet list of 300 models and my assessment of which were student and which were better.

Just be sure that it has the "barrel" or that the end of the clarinet has the "barrel" built in. The metal clarinets take a standard clarinet mouthpiece. In many cases the "barrel" gets lost and finding a replacement is difficult to impossible.

I have just came into possession of a metal clarinet and it does have the barrel with it. I don't know anything about metal clarinets but have been trying to research my new instrument. It says it was made by Robert Durand & Co. with professional engraved underneath the company name. It also has what looks like the serial# 20307 Germany. If anyone has any type of info. it would be appreciated. Thanks!
