Kung Hei Fat choi is cantonese Gong xi fa cai (Chinese) which means wishing somebody prosperity

"Gong xi fa cai" is Mandarin. "Kung hei fat choi" is Cantonese. Both are Chinese.
I say "Xin nian hao!", which is Mandarin for "Happy New Year!"

Thanks, diz. Same at you, now that it's the Lunar New Year (sometimes called Chinese New Year) here (California), too.
Among others, the Koreans and Vietnamese also celebrate the Lunar New Year. So, Saehae Bok Mani Paduseyo! and Chuc Mung Nam Moi! to you as well.

I'm an elementary = teacher and usually acknowledge Chinese New Year with books and activities. I guess it snuck up on me this year, since I saw it today in the paper and now here. I missed it---rats! :(

Lisa . . . No, it's monkeys this year. ;+) And you haven't missed it all. At least where I am (San Francisco area), there's about two weeks of celebrations, culminating in the big parade on February 7.
