 "supertone" clarinet?
Author: mcale

I teach band at a small school system in Ohio. The school where I work does not own a whole lot of instruments, so I am trying to get some instruments for some of the students that can not afford them. My brother came across an old wood clarinet that is for sale for $100 (US). The only thing he can tell me about it is that it is a "supertone." Has anyone out there heard of this make? No one that I have spoken with knows anything about the name, and I would just like to know if it would be worth the money, or if I should keep looking. Any information will help.

I'd keep looking. You can get a truck full of Bundys, Vitos, and Yamahas for under $100 each on ebay. They may not be wood, but they are all decent beginner clarinets with a proven reputation.

The Ballad of "Supertone"

A description overblown.

It's a clarinet unknown.

Warning! - danger zone!

I can't condone.

Leave it alone.

Thus, postpone.

It may stink worse than bad cologne.

Ignore this advice? You're on your own ...GBK

Spend a few dollars to run an ad, M.C. or, place a 'free' one in your school newsletter if you can do that. Schools usually get more donated instruments than they know what to do with once the need is known.
