Does anyone know what grade/ rating Bozza's Aria is? I am auditioning a clarinetist on this piece for the 246 Army band and need to verify the pieces grade. Thank you : )

I don't know about a rating? The piece is not one with a lot of fast notes.
What it does have is some very beautiful lines to sing with your instrument. I have heard this on both clarinet and alto sax. Either one works when the player has great control in their sound so each music phrase can be played tenderly with smooth crescendo or decrescendo. A very emotional piece when done well.

The Bozza "Aria" is published by Leduc. On the 9-point scale they show for ratings of their pieces, they rate it a 5 (4-6 are identified as medium difficulty). I think you should be able verify this from the cover of the candidate's sheet music .
For comparison, Leduc rates the Weber "Concertino" and Rabaud "Solo de Concours" as 6, and the Messager "Solo de Concours" and Pierne "Canzonetta" as 7.

NYSSMA (New York) rates pieces from level 1 to 6, with 6 being the most difficult.
The Bozza Aria is listed as a Level 4 in the NYSSMA manual ...GBK

Exactly what I was looking for, Thank you for such a timely response!!
This is one of my favorite pieces to play, I was going to lend it to someone for their audition, I just needed to confirm it was at least a 4. I hope he plays it well enough to pass the audition (he's a saxophonist).
