What equipment do I need ?

Hi,
I'm getting very bogged down in technology that I don't understand- hope someone can help pull me out !!!!
I want to know what equipment I need in order to play my clarinet and pre-recorded accompaniment on CD to an audience of around 40 people please.
Up until now I've been playing my cd on an ordinary music centre, standing fairly close by it and playing along without a microphone - some of my audience are hard of hearing and say they can't really hear the clarinet too well so I think I need to use a mic - I've been searching through posts on this board, looking at sites about mixers, amps and different types of mics and am totally confused now !!!
I'm not looking to spend a huge amount of money but am willing to buy an amp, mixer, mic and stand if I need them all !!
Please can anyone advise me ????
Should I just buy a reasonable mic, attach it to a boom stand and small amp and play along with my music centre or do I need to do something else ???
Thanks
Sue

You're probably right !
One thing I forgot to say .................. I'm not a very accomplished player so I don't think the AMT microphone would be a good idea !!!

If you do need a mixer, Behringer makes some very nice, very affordable ones (I have one coming in the mail at the moment). With that, a pair of powered speakers, a CD player, and microphone, you should be set. If you don't need to mic yourself, you probably don't need the mixer and mic.

They can't hear the clarinet very well? How big is the venue you're playing at for just 40 people? You shouldn't need to amplify at all for such a small crowd unless the room is an incredible sponge. Play louder. I've heard unamplified clarinets in a hall of 400 with no complaints... if you amplify it too much, you'll be too loud for those that aren't hard of hearing.

Perhaps (and yes this is stereotyping, but I'm going to do it anyway), perhaps this is at a nursing home or other venue where there are people that are just hard of hearing! I only say this because one of my goals is to be able to play out at nursing homes, and any other place that would have me, with free admission, and where people would accept and appreciate me (even though I'm no pro).

And I too would love to find a pianist for accompaniment, but finding someone with time to rehearse with me, of a capable level to play the accompinament (which from what I'm told is no piece of cake in many instances), and willing to sacrifice their time for little or no money in reimbursement is a tough person to find!

You could probably use a setup similar to what DJs use but with just a cd player and mike for inputs. You can use the mike for talking or for your clarinet. Probably a powered speaker like one of the Roland units. I suggest you visit your local music store for professional advice.....or contact a mail order place like Musicians' Friend.
