Another Church Performance

Before Christmas, I had posted a topic about performance nervousness.
I had received many replies to this and I want to thank everyone for their help.
My nerves were quite bad at that first performance which included shakey
hands and a quivering lip.

This coming Sunday, I are playing in a clarinet trio at another church. Our group includes my daughter and a friend from work. I am beginning to get anxious already about this event.
Despite the anxiety, though I feel compelled to do this and as some of you replied, each performance adds to the learning experience.

Thanks again for all your advice. I do enjoy the camaraderie of participating on the Clarinet Board!

I read somewhere, probably here, that you never get rid of the butterflies - eventually though, you might get 'em to fly in formation.

So far, it sounds to me like you're doing fine. First of all, you got up in front of a crowd of people, many of them 'unknown' to you - unless yours is a verrry small church. That in itself took a lot of nerve. Though your hands were a little shaky and your lip trembled - you made it! You didn't collapse, you didn't disastrate the peice(s). And, if I read you correctly, someone invited you to play again. I may be grossly mistaken, but I'm guessing that five or more people told you, after your performance, that they appreciated your music. I know from experience that they did, and do, truly like what you do. I'm glad you're staying with it.

I don't know about 'adding to your learning experience' and such stuff as that but I do know for a fact that the more you do it, the more enjoyable it becomes.

I also admit to anxiety before/during/after a church performance, but console myself that the "audience" will-not-be/is-not as critical as for a symphony concert. I recall a cl trio gig performing some Mozart/Handel pieces, where I didn't see a DaCapo and stopped then/there. Asking later, no one [said] they even noticed, I was playing 2nd!! Don, Relax
