Hiya! I'm new, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Simba Instruments are a good maker of clarinets? If not, what would you suggest?

Use the Search function at the top of the page and enter in "Simba." You'll find some enlightening information, the point of which will be "don't touch it with an 11-foot pole."
Here's one thread: <http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i =127955&t=127955>
For about the same price as a new Simba, you can get a good quality Vito, Buffet B-12, Yamaha, or even several old Bundy clarinets that'll keep you on the right and true path of clarineting.t

Shoddy. A great word, and not used often enough. I loved the bit about them being made out of balsa wood.
Honestly, unless your clarinet sinks when you take it into the bath, steer clear.
You want to get your teacher, or en experienced player who knows one end of a clarinet from the other to help you find a nice one.

Sarah, here's an ideas of what the Simba owner may face: Brook-Mays Music Company bills itself as " the oldest and largest full-line musical instrument dealer in the USA." Of course, such a dealer repairs a great number of instruments.
Some months ago, the Brook-Mays Newsletter referred to "'Instrument Shaped Objects' under the name brands of First Act Concert Series, SIMBA, Bluebird, Jean Baptiste and others." . The newsletter also said, in part: "_The ISO’s break and parts are NOT available_... Because of the design and quality, or lack thereof, we must respectfully decline to work on these or similar instruments."
If you are in the US, you may verify that this is real by calling Brook-Mays at 1.800.637.8966.
Brook-Mays are by no means the only repairers to avoid the frustration of trying to fix something that may be unfixable. Check with a reputable local repair technician to determine what kind of service is offered for Simba Clarinets.
You might also ask that same technician which brands of instruments are found to be of good quality and reliable.
Regards,
John
