 Weber Concerto No. 2 Cadenzas
Author: Micaela

Which cadenzas do you like for the second movement? I have the International edition and I think the cadenzas are somewhat uninspired. My teacher gave me his transcription of Neidich's cadenzas, which I like, but I'm playing this concerto in a competition (it's the same competition I mentioned before, I just changed my piece) and I think I have copyright issues. My teacher just copied the cadenzas off the CD; as far as I know they aren't published. Presuming that playing Neidich's cadenzas is illegal, what do you suggest as a substitute?

Thanks,
Micaela

Come up with your own. Some runs, some diminished sevenths, a hint at the original theme (maybe a hint at the theme in movement 3), go wild.

... or, if you want to try writing your own, do a little research (if you haven't studied this already) and find out how a cadenza is actually supposed to be constructed, then see what you can do.

(Sorry I can't suggest alternatives, Micaela, I also have the International Edition.)

Best regards,
jnk

I don't remember the Weber 2 having any cadenzas in my copy or recording. Are they in all version, or just in some? (I know there are some versions of the Weber 1 that have it and some that don't, so it's probably similar)

I have written cadenzas in the past and would like to do so for this piece, but I don't think I will have time to do a good job. This is a bit of a last minute switch for me- the competition is in three weeks.
theclarinetist- there are two cadenzas in the second movement. Sometimes they can be so short they're almost unnoticable.
I'm going to New York next week so I'll see what Patelson's and the Julliard bookstore have around.

Hi Micaela,
I have a C. Rose Cadenza in a Lancelot Edition if you want it. It isn't too bad. Just let me know and drop me an email or post here.
