I have recently been working for a music store here in Tehachapi, CA, and am pleased that I am going to the NAMM Show in Anaheim next week. For those of you that don't know, this is a large annual music products trade show; NAMM is put on by the International Music Products Association.
I am new to the retail end of music, and intend to absorb as much info about the business, and the instruments and products, and as I can.
Concerning clarinets, I hope to see and play the new Buffet Tosca, and other pro horns, and perhaps more interestingly, I plan to learn as much as I can about the cheaper imports. Any comments from you all?

PS My music store specializes in traditional music and strings, so although I know about this site and woodwinds, I have much to study in that parallel universe. Again, if you have thoughts about strings, email me privately.

Wow, sounds like great fun, and it's right near me. Unfortunately, the $175 is a bit steep. Suppose I'll have to be content with the California Music Educators' Convention that I'll probably attend in March.

A couple of my suppliers are going. Unfortunately for those of us in the repair fraternity in the southern hemisphere January is our busiest month so it is difficult to get away. There is a similar show in Frankfurt later in the year. It is, evidently, worth visiting. A lot more European makers attend this one.

Hi Wayne!
The Buffet booth at the NAMM show tends to be an institutional type of display intended for doing business with store buyers, I thought from years of seeing it. It may not be so easy to try the Tosca clarinet there. In addition, the place is very noisy and it is difficult to hear well. It may be a good idea to try instruments at the Buffet facility in the SFV and, if you like one, have it sent to your store. The usual fee was in the $25 range, I thought, for getting in the door at NAMM. You will see endless manufacturers of instruments from asia. Sometimes these instruments can be purchased at low cost off the floor, but some are poorly made.
I'm probably going and will look at hard disc recording systems, wooden flutes, and woodwinds. Good luck!
