 Wind Quintet

Hi everyone,

I am just posting to see if anyone has a list of standard repertoire for wind quintet?

Our quintet has kind of lost focus this term at college and we need to get sorted!

Thanks,
Rob

Hi rbell96:
I don't have a really complete list of Woodwind Quintets, but this is a list of the quintets that come to mind immediately:

The Andraud Books (the red/orange ones) 21 Quintets
Arnold - Sea Shanties
Barber - Summer Music
Bozza - Variations
Carter - Quintet
Damase - 17 Variations
Danzi - Quintets
Fine - Partita
Francaix - Wind Quintet
Goeb - Quintets 1 & 2
Gould - Pavanne
Hindemith - Kleine Kammermusik
Ibert - Three Short Pieces
Milhaud - The Chimney of King Rene
Nielsen - Quintet
Persichetti - Pastoral
Piston - Quintet
Ravel - Pavane & Piece in the Form of a Habanera
Reicha - Quintets
Riegger - Blaserquintett
Ropartz - 10 Pieces
Schoenberg - Quintet
Taffanel - Wind Quintet

This looks like an excellent list. Anything in regards to a clarinet trio?

John Moses ... your list reminded me to listen to my Piston CD again, thanks, a very fine composer indeed. I like his symphonic writting very much.

Don't forget the Ligeti 6 Bagatelles and 10 Bagatelles. There are good Sextets out there too. (Poulenc for instance)

Nielsen, Francaix, and Barber are probably the most important

The three that interest me the most are Ligeti (both works), Barber, and Holst. The ones I dislike the most are Reicha and Danzi.

Add a bass clarinet and you get to do Janacek's Mladi, which knocks the spots of any straight quintet I have played, but is not too easy.
