How krommel's double concerto for two clarinets! I heard a snippet of it with Sabine Meyer and her brother and thought that that little snippet was awesome! You might want to look at that.

um, two come to mind
Krommer or Kramer (with inflections over the last two letters). The Czech recording i have of this work gives his name as
"Frantisek Vincenc Krommer-Kramar" (he used both spellings depending on which part of Europe he was in i understand) and there are two double concerti (both in E flat) Op 35 and Op 91.
Also a Karl Stamitz concerto for two clarinets in Bflat (this one is quite substantial music except for the unfortunately short last mvt)
or.... give me a date and i'll write one for you (9min one mvt work... tonal or atonal, you choose).

Yes!!! I know of one!

Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra by Max Bruch

I heard this only once, performed live and it is really a great piece! I don't think it is really technically demanding or flashy... just beautiful music. I also recall that there might be some sort of duet concertino for bassoon and clarinet by Strauss as well. Definitely check out the Bruch though.

sorry, i misread the original post- you didn't mean for two clarinets... my mistake.
yeah- Bruch and Strauss are the two most obvious.
do you play Bass clarinet? there is a good concerto for Bass Clarinet and Cello by Anthony Ritchie (interesting, tuneful without being elevator music)

Jack Brymer mentions a double concerto for clarinet and bassoon by the English composer Josef Holbrooke; no recording, but several of his other works are available, and they're quite interesting. Apparently he was very popular early in his career and later fell out of favor. This would make a nice coupling with the Strauss.

Carl Stamitz, Concerto No. 4 (for violin and clarinet with an option of substituting a clarinet for the violin part)

Vaclav Felix, Double Concerto for Bass Clarinet, Piano and String Orchestra

Istvan Lang, Double Concerto for Clarinet and Harp

Peter von Winter, Concerto for Clarinet and Cello

Oldrich Flosman, Double Concerto for Bass Clarinet, Piano and Orchestra

Not "concertos" but for clarinet another instrument and orchestra:

Mendelssohn, Konzertstucke (both for clarinet and bassett horn with alternative parts for two clarinets, or clarinet and bassoon)

Danzi, Concertino for Clarinet, Bassoon and Orch.
Concertante for Flute, Clarinet and Orch.

Hoffmeister, Sinfonia Concertante for Clarinet and Bassoon

Richard Strauss, Duet Concertino (clarinet and bassoon)

Nikolai Peiko, Concerto-Poem for Balaika, Clarinet and Orchestra

Milos Stedron, Old and New Renaissance Dances (bass clarinet, piano and orchestra)

Stepan Lucky, Fantasia Concertante for Bass Clarinet, Piano and String Orchestra

Andre Patrick wrote some Rhapsodies for Clarinet, Percussion and Orchestra (or string orchestra)

There are others. A Googol search on "Duo Boemi Praga" will probably turn up additional modern works for clarinet, piano and orchestra. Also check the composers' database for "sinfonia concertante."

Best regards,
jnk
