Well, was phoned by the director of the district concert band here - they start back in February and he'd be happy to have another clarinet it seems. So, looks like I have a month to get my playing up to the standard it used to be (or at least endeavour to).
Of course, no-one can do a rush job of standard - but what do people suggest to improve my playing when I practice? Scales? Songs? What is most effective?

Long tones. In scale form. (two in one shot, look at that!). Do some stuff to get your tonguing up as well as you can too. Just for those staccato runs. Scales with tonguiing variations would probably do fine. I personally try to tongue eight notes then slur the next eight. Then I try to (as quickly as I can cleanly) tongue a chromatic scale from low E to altissimo G and back down. Generally I find my tongue gets tired too quickly but that's cause that's something I just started doing. Hopefully I'll build up my tonguing stamina and technique over the next year (New years resolution for studying my scales and getting my technique as advanced as I can through proper instruction and practice)

Get a teacher. Listen to what the teacher says. Respond appropriately. If you cannot afford a teacher, get a knowledgeable friend to tell you bluntly what you're doing wrong. Fix that. Then practice. Lots.

John
