 I recognize some names here...
Author: Leanne

Hey everyone! I'M BACK.

As for those of you who are confused, I used to be "Kontragirl" around these parts, years ago. Tooting my contralto in my high school band, and tearing clarinets apart...getting them back together MOST of the time.

Now, I'm all grown up! I'm a college student (majoring in Earth Science), and I'm an up and coming repair tech.

Anyway, this is the best site I've found for clarinet info, and since I'd like to get serious about my clarinet again, I thought I'd come back to the place where I learned most of what I know.

So, here I am!

Leanne

Welcome back! You're right, this is a tremendous source of neat info. When I started doing some serious research, a lot of it sounded familiar because it had been on the BB. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of opinions, some of which will work for you and some won't, but it's nice to have a pocket full of others' experiences to refer to when you're stuck on a problem.

So you're kontragirl? I recognize that name from some searches that I've been doing. Welcome back. (Isn't it funny how so many people eventually gravitate BACK towards clarinet playing?) And it's good to hear about you being an up and coming repair person. Looks like we might have another future sponsor under "service", huh?![wink]

Nice to "see" you again, Kontragirl. Can you kinda fill us in a little more on what you're doing now? Earth Science sounds fascinating. What're you doing repair-wise?
Welcome back.

Wow! I feel special! You all remembered me! I'm so glad to be back :)

As for more about what I'm doing...

I've got a job offer for when I graduate on the east coast doing water quality testing, which sounds exciting, but there are so many other career paths for me to follow. Doing resource management at national parks, being a gemologist...That's every girl's dream job right there! Looking at diamonds and other precious gems all day...although I have interesting views on the diamond industry (as do most geologists).

On my campus, I'm the secretary of CoPIRG, and the president of the Earth Science Club. I'm not in band, as it's hard to schedule around my labs for science classes, but I enjoy heading down to Foundation Hall when there's a good concert!

As for instrument repair--I'm currently just doing work for a few repeat customers and their pals. Mostly, I'm buying cheap instruments that appear to be on their last leg, and giving them new life. Sometimes I sell them and make a little cash, but I often fall in love with them, and thus, my instrument collection has grown. I'm looking for a job at a store, because I'd like to get in with NAPBIRT. Until then, I'm really happy with the experience I'm getting.

I'm still in good practice on my clarinet and bass. My flute roommate is religious about pulling her flute out 3 times a week, so it keeps me in check. And before she was around, I was in band, so I've been a good girl, practicing my bass.

I'm itching to join band again to play contra...it's looking like I'll be able to next semester.

Hey Kontragirl. Welcome back. "Earth Science", Gee! Is that where we geezers go to have muddy tone's corrected?
