My R13 Eb came with a 41.5 barrel and my teacher gave me a 41.5 Chadash for it. TOday however, I played my friends RC Prestige Eb and it came with a 43.2mm. When I first played on hers, without realising what length the barrel was, I was amazed that my troublesome notes (which are normally insanely sharp) were in tune, or just above the middle on the tuner. I tried her barrel on my R13 and - problem solved. So my question is, why did hers come with a 43.2mm when (apparently?) 41.5mm is the standard length for Eb. I'm in the process of ordering a 43mm barrel to replace mine, but I'm just checking that its not really abnormal.

i just measured my R13 Eflat barrel and it was 43mm. i don't know why your came with a shorter barrel- does it have an "F" prefacing the serial number (which would indicate it was a european pitch instrument, the only difference being that Buffet would sell it with a shorter barrel....)

Both the R-13 and RC Eb clarinets are shipped with a 41.5mm barrel.
The RC Prestige Eb clarinet is shipped with a 43.2mm barrel.
The E-11 Eb clarinet is shipped with a 42.2mm barrel...GBK

Just an (un)educated guess (and we all know what those are worth):
The E-11 Eb clarinet (shipped with a 42.2mm barrel) is designed to play at A=442.
The R-13 and RC Eb clarinets (shipped with 41.5mm barrels) are designed to play at A=440.
The RC Prestige Eb clarinet (shipped with a 43.2mm barrel) is designed to play at A=440.
Thus, I would assume (although never having measured them) that even though the bores of the Eb clarinets are the same for each model (13.10mm), the body length of the different models are slightly different.
by the way - just to add a bit more confusion:
The RC Prestige D clarinet is shipped with a 41.5mm barrel (!) ...GBK

Well when I used ot setup on my friends RC Prestige Eb, the problem notes were far better in tune. I then demonstarted to her on my R13 with 41.5mm barrel and there is just such a difference in pitch! Oh well. I'll just wait for this 43mm chadash barrel to arrive
