 Catalog(u)ing CD's
Author: bob49t

Merry Christmas everyone !

Just got 3 great CD's for Christmas.

Made me think I should catalog(u)e my vast collection, rather than search through 4 piles of neatly stacked CD's only to find the target of my attentions, second bottom of the last pile, every blasted time. (I know I should go there first).

Any bright (even humo(u)rous) suggestions to sort my dilemma and allow me to accomplish my first successful New Year Resolution of all time ?

AND why don't our American friends like the letter "U" anyway ?

Hic ! Cheers,

BobT

Hi,

I did create something for Microsoft Access along these lines.

It may help you, get in touch!

I don't know what kind of computer you have, but if you have enough memory you can just burn them all onto your computer and access them that way. I burn all my CDs into Apple iTunes (available for macs and PCs) then after that I pretty much never touch the actual CDs.

You can search by any word, by title, artist, composer, album, genre, and many other criteria as well. I would NEVER go back to using a CD player and Cds the normal way. The only downside is that music is taking up about a quarter of my hard drive. I guess when it gets so full it's a problem, Ill worry about it then.

PS - also, I got this really cool CD organizer that has number slots for the CDS, then you make a list of which CDs is which number and you just set it to that number and it gets that cd for you. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's really cool (and while you still might have to search through a list, it's easier to digging through stacks of CDs). You can see some at www.discware.com

Sorry, the website is www.discgear.com. If you go to products, select the one called "Selector". It sort of explains how it works.

I was very religious about inputting all new cd date into a database until sometime after it hit the 1200 mark. I just keep them in order on shelves now. ....by composer, artist or something else that pops into my mind.
