To stop fussing so much about the equipment and start enjoying the MUSIC and the feelings it conveys. Enough of neurotically searching for the "perfect" sound.

let's see.......in the interim: 2 broken wrists, 4 broken fingers, cyst removal from under the tongue tip, multiple fractures of the neck and a mini stroke.....hmmmm...........( you said a wish !!)

As if my wish will EVER come true...but here goes:

To have all US citizens given health care by the Government! Not to get too political, but socialized medicine would make it able for me to be ONLY a musician and NOT a PT retail salesperson. That said, I _am_ very grateful for the part-time job with benefits, and I know many musicians don't have this on their side...for me it's the diabetes that makes it necessary.

xoxo,
Katrina

GOOD HEALTH!! This sesmister was rough, I ended up with severe bronchitis a week before my level. I played my level and ended up in the Emergency Room 10 min after. The doctor said he had no clue how I got through it. I ended up pulling a muscle in my chest. The medicine he put me on ( Vidocin ) screwed me up soo much, I ended up failing most of my finals. I just want for one sesmister to feel good and not to be sick. No more bronchitis, upper respitory infection, bruised muscles, mono... healthy full lungs and a clear chest = a GREAT tone !!! :)

Oh.. and not to freak out when i'm playing. I freaked out when my professors started asking me scales during my level.. and screwed up every single one of them because of nerves. I knew how to play them. I walked out of that room and played every scale perfect.. I freak out though uugh. I'm workin on that.

So, i have 2 wishes.. lol. Combine them both ? :)

I edited mine. It WAS to save enough for an A clarinet. But more importantly than that (even though it'd be nice!) is to join with SuzyQ in actually learning my scales and whatnot. Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll be able to play through Baermann III smoothly (while maybe not quickly, just smoothly will do for now).

Ok, I just want better technique and more structured practice time... something I know I can accomplish with hard work.

Laurie, I was sick last year... that sounds awful! I hope your professors were understanding since you were on medicine when you took those finals. I always get nervous too; I took a final where I had to sing and play piano and the teacher said I could warm up... so I played one of the accompaniments perfectly! It so happened that I had to play it again, for the grade, and I screwed it up (only minorly) but i still lost points. Grrr...

Hmmm? C4 is just a reference ... middle C. The next C up is C5, the one below is C3, etc. You only need one reference note to figure the rest ...

But when you hit the A above that, is that A5 or A4? Do the numbers increase once you hit C or once you hit A?

sfalexi... The A above C4 is A4.

The numbers "change" when you reach the C.

Thus, third space C is C5 ...GBK

My wish is to have a small chamber group that will meet on a consistent basis. I don't care if we get paid. I had a group a few years ago and it was so much fun. One of them moved, the other went back to school and another simply had too crazy a schedule to play on a regular basis.

Oh, and not chirping on my bass,

Jean

To keep perfection as the ideal, while renouncing perfectionism as a way of life.

To give the benefit of the doubt to people who don't necessarily feel that way.

I hadn't posted on this earlier because I couldn't decide between a) having a group locally in which I could play clarinet regularly (which I'd really love) and b) keeping healthy so that playing continues to be a pleasure.
After consideration, I think it has to be the health thing - it's surprising how we take it for granted until things go wrong!

Some people do number that way - there are multiple ways of numbering notes.

C4 being middle C is taken from the piano and therefore can relate to just about any instrument - if you use different starting pitches as "C1" then things get confusing when we talk to each other. Using the C4 as middle C standard means we all talk the same language, even if one or both of us has to "translate" to the common standard.

For clarinet manufacturers to listen to the players and put quality and innovation first and foremost. (Unbeknownst to them but beknownst to us, this will probably improve their bottom line.)

Best Regards

Next has to be to continue to improve and to continue to enjoy making music. I would hate to finally make it into a big orchestra and when I get there....I dont wan't to play anymore:)
