 Another Flu Question
Author: potatohead
Date:   2003-12-22 18:13

I've seen a stream of flu/cold questions coming in already, and I'm sorry to say, I just got over the flu myself.
Anyways, I've had a 104ยบ fever for the past three days, but today it suddenly dropped down to normal. (I don't know if it will stay though). Should i practice on my clarinet, but take some precautions or something? Also, is it okay if I play on my wooden one, or should I chicken out and play on my old plastic one? I guess these are pretty stupid questions, but I'm still a little delirious I think.

Don't worry--you have to be a bit delirious to be a clarinetist anyhow. I would just go ahead with my normal routine on my main instrument and do as much as I felt like. Just don't stand up too soon after those long tones. Glad your feeling better--Happy Holidays.

Definitely don't wanna exhaust yourself. Cause if you're using a lot of energy, that immune system of yours won't work that well. And when you feel better, I'd give it a few days just to make sure that you can kick as many of those viri (plural of virus?) butts as you can. Go ahead and keep the embouchre working with long tones, but don't strain too much too soon. That's my opinion.

just in deep ponderment - does the air pressure involved in playing, aid or abet the viri and opportunistic bacterii trying to penetrate the lining of your wind machine.
