Here in Canada we grade our pieces. I'm not exactly sure how it works but I know the highest level of "band" pieces is a grade 6 or 600. How do you grade in the US? For example the piece Armenian Dances by Alfred reed is a grade 6. I hope I'm making sense because I don't know much about it even in Canada so if anyone does know and wants to clear me up that would be great!

Most states (USA) have their own grading system. They are usually on a 5, 6 or 7 level system.
In New York (NYSSMA), the grading for all music (instrumental, vocal, solos, and ensembles) is from Level 1 to Level 6.
The Alfred Reed Armenian Dances (both Part 1 and Part 2) are Level 6 band ...GBK (a NYSSMA adjudicator)

In Australia we have a national body that oversees this sort of thing ... the AMEB ... I personally think it's a bit of a waste of time (the examinations side of it), but it certainly gives one a good "rough" idea of what sort of stand a piece is. Our grading goes from preliminary to grade 8 - then there's three basic grades of diploma: associate, licentiate and fellowship.
