The clarinet I bought had a reed already with it of course - which I don't plan to use (eww germs lol....)...anyway, it loooks so different from my Rico reeds. It's a Reeds Australia Studio reed (not sure what grade, you can't read that bit)...anyway, what are these reeds like? It looks thinner and quite a bit different from my ricos.

This is a good brand, though the Studio is their student reed for ease of blowing etc. Haven't tried this reed, but have tried others from this maker and they were good.

I am nowhere near a pro player, but I liked the Australian reeds I tried.

as Graham writes, the "studio" is the "student reed" from the RA stable. At least one pro player i know has tried the Reed Australia XL reed and had some success (Phil Green won an audition and played RA reeds for a year in the APhil as Asoc Principal). He has however now changed back to Vandoren, most players i know who have used RA ended up back where they started after trying them for a few months. I am sure that there are players out there perfectly happy with them but they would be in the minority.

This is very OT but I sometimes wonder when you guys Down Under sleep. You seem to be posting at all hours of the day, including your night! Keep awake! It's to our benefit, I assure you.

I wondered how many years it would take being here before somebody noticed.
I can speak only for myself. I often snooze after evening meal, then stay awake until 3 or 4 a.m, to wake again about 8:30 or 9. I snooze during the day if I am tired.
I enjoy the night, when it is cooler in summer, and when the house is still warm from the evening fire in winter, and when I am not interrupted. I think I have totally destroyed my circadian clock. There uis little in my life that is orthodox.

On my Palm handheld, I have an program called World Clock. It is just that - I can compare up to three timezones at once. It's very interesting because recently I had to call IMS, and the time that was convenient for them was 5am for me...
As I write, it is 1:41am in London, 7:41pm on Monday night in Chicago, 5:41pm in Chicago....
Hey! You guys are a day behind! I'm having lunch on Tuesday here, and you're having dinner YESTERDAY!

Yes, Donald, in the end they did not work for me either (though I have used the E flat reeds quite successfully). I heard somewhere that Andrew Marriner (one of the leading British players) uses them.
