I've noticed that since having some cork removed from the right hand trill key (Eb/Bb), the notes sound much clearer. However, the key now has further to move. Is this a problem (especially for faster passages), or a necessary trade-off? Thanks?

Yes, a necessary trade-off, as is the POSSIBILITY of the note being a little sharper.
Players get used to whatever travel is necessary. Consider trumpet players, who still manage to move keys very fast.
However you may find that the clarity remains even with a compromise opening.

A necessary trade off. If you want a key vented further then the trade off is generally further key travel. Another option is a shallower or pointier pad which will change the venting without effecting the key travel as much. It shouldn't be too much of an issue either way on a trill key. I suspect from the way you are talking that it is the lower trill key used for an alternate throat Bb.

The Eb/Bb trill key he's speaking about should be the lowest trill key. Mine opens a great deal and I don't find it slowing me down in any transitions or runs at all. In this case it is such a small change, I doubt it would affect the speed that much. Your fingers can be a lot faster than you thing!
