 Piano Accomp. for Rose Etudes
Author: Mark Charette

I was updating my publisher list (the composition database is undergoing a revision and more info on publishers will be available with the database) and found this on a publisher's website:

"New! Piano Accompaniments to the Rose Clarinet Etudes

No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, &31

The entire set of 32 Etude accompaniments scheduled to be completed by spring, 2004."

The question of accompaniment comes up from time to time. I can't vouch for how good they are - it's an FYI only.

Sounds like a good idea. To have to play with accompaniment adds another dimention to playing - just when you think you have it mastered. That should help a great deal in preparation for exams, etc. It would be nice if these accompaniments get added to the SmartMusic music bank for daily practice. This accompniment program already includes the Rubank books, Solos for the Clarinet Player, Master Solos for the Intermediate Level, and so on.

This reminds me of one clarinet song book I purchased from a music store on impulse - I bought it because the songs had areas where there were several bars rest and I naively thought that this would be where the piano would come in, right? Wrong. I checked into this extensively and found that even the publisher doesn't publish any accompaniment to this book. If it did, this would be a great book for playing together with my friends and family. Now how much do you think that book gets used? Talk about dumb.

After all the solitary hours I've put into these pieces, it will be nice to have something to do with them. Let's hope that the arrangements are well done.

NOt too sure whether this is such a great thing, the spirit of these works are about a teacher imparting a solid technique to a student....might bore the hell out an audience...

the music in most of the studies is pretty formless...random melodic permutation etc...

The accompaniment in the recording of Dr. Fujii's recording was taseful and didn't detract at all from the work.

No one would want a steady diet of the etudes, but it's nice to hear them in a different context.

Dear Mark:

Definitely agree with you on this one, but I haven't heard them so will be purchasing for the new year....

Wonder if the violin players are doing the same to Viotti and Kreutzer?
