Hello Friends,
Last week I asked for advice on defending my thesis. I defended this afternoon. I was all prepared to have to argue my case for hours, and it was over in about twenty minutes.
I did it. Many long years of research, being away from my husband and son, typing, re-typing...and more typing. And I graduate with a 4.0 GPA.
Thanks to all of you who have been so helpful over the years with advice and funny stories. Now it is off to Midwest for the next few days for some Christmas shopping, some concerts, and LOTS of exhibits. Hope to see some of you there. Looking forward to seeing Indiana and the Army Field Band to name a few.
Happy Holidays,
Jean Adler, B.A., M.A.

Diz,
Here in USA, we base our grades on a four point scale. 4.0 being the best, and 0 being the worst. We also label them by letters. Typically, an A is a 4.0, A- would be around a 3.6, B+ around a 3.3, B is 3.0, etc. through the letter D. Then an F is a 0.0.
So a 4.0 means she has gotten at least As, maybe A+'s in all classes throughout her masters. A very hard thing to do.

As a "hobby clarinetist" I can only wonder what it must be like to have a Master Degree in music. I struggle to master the pieces passed out by our community band director and learn more and more each day, how very ignorant of music I really am.
It is nice to know that there are people like you who endeavor to learn the inner workings of music. I hope you share these experience with us hobby clarinetist in some form. Be it performance, creation, instruction.
Well done

Yes, congratulations!!! That was definitely a huge accomplishment. I'm very happy for you
I thought about working on mine but realized the time commitment, cost, and the energy necessary and decided not to for now. My two oldest are in college. My oldest is getting married this summer. Plus, three other kids to deal with. Hands are full right now. Plus, I want to learn this clarinet!

Congrats on this outstanding lifetime achievement, you've now joined the ranks of a unique group of accomplished artists. And, I too this year had to separate from, and take a job 2,000 miles away from my family ... I indeed understand and share the great zeal and sacrifice you make to and for your profession. v/r Ken
