 Clarinet Christmas Music
Author: Rev. Avery

The Recorder board mentioned Christmas music with Recorders. That got me to wondering if there is Christmas music with Clarinets? Not just with Clarinets, but by Clarinets.

just bumping this for the Rev. (I'm curious too, if there is an answer, but the thought of a Christmas album with just clarinets does sound rather bonkers and would, I think, test the limits of a non-clarinet household, i.e. my-inlaws [wink]).

[ PLEASE do not abuse the BBoard that way. If no one has an answer to a question then it should scroll off of the first page. Pushing a question back to the top defeats the purpose of the bulletin board ...GBK ]

GBK:

I have a thought:

This is the Christmas season; this is a clarinet bulletin board; clarinetists, like most others this time of year, may be too busy to view this board every day or even more than once a week, and, Rev. Avery has an excellent question that deserves a little time to be answered.

It does not seem unreasonable to allow this sort of question to remain up at least through, lets say, December 15th.

I am interested in any possible answers that may be posted and am thankful to "justwannaplay" for bumping the topic up.

Hi. GBK is a wonderful helper, but the buck stops here ...

This message, as all messages do, will scroll off the page in accordance with its popularity. If no one posts answers, it rolls off to the preceding page, etc.

It's the way I want it to work - posting just to pop something up to the top again (with no addition to the content) will bring about a personal admonition from either myself or GBK.

Hi Mark,

I'm very sorry for having 'bumped' Rev. Avery's question if this is not in accordance with how you want the BB to run, but perhaps this should be stated in the Rules. I'm one of these people who actually *reads* rules (and those boring contracts when you download softwear), so I did go through the rules on the link above, and didn't recall seeing anything about bumping and I've just checked again and there's nothing said about it.

On other BBs that I subscribe to, some re. health, bumping sometimes makes all the difference in getting an answer that may be very important to someone. So forgive me if I thought one could do so here, albeit the knowledge gained on this lovely BB is not as crucial as that to determine a medical outcome.

Thanks for a great BB,
Elizabeth

Heavy sigh. I hate having to put everything in the rules, since once in a while I like to give people some lattitude for some special reason. When I do and it's "against the rules" I invariably (and I mean invariably) get a message from someone who feels I slighted them because they were taken to task for breaking that rule in the past.

People who post to "pop" a message back to the top of the list will for now be told not to do that, and in most cases I'll just delete the post.

I expect at this point that people realize than I expect no replies to THIS post and that this thread will scroll off if you can't add to the main topic.

I guess I was thinking about Kenny G having done some Christmas music on his soprano sax?? I don't own any but I was thinking he did.

So, that got me wondering about the Clarinet being done the same way. I really think it would be great to listen to, myself. At least, sort of the way a Kenny G might do it.

OK, I don't know if this answers your question or not, but Richard Stoltzman's "Hark!" CD recording is all Christmas music, and he's a clarinetist.

Here are the songs:

Track Listings
1. Ding Dong!
2. Silent Night
3. What Child Is This? (Greensleeves)
4. We Three Kings
5. Adeste Fideles/Gesu Bambino
6. I Wonder as I Wander
7. O Little Town of Bethlehem/O Tannenbaum
8. Deck the Halls
9. There Is No Rose
10. Away in a Manger/Amazing Grace
11. He Shall Feed His Flock
12. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
13. Nativity Carol
14. Winter
15. O Holy Night

Does that help you?

Eddie Daniels did "Sleigh Ride".

Not sure which album that is on.

Lisa, I just ordered "Hark!" Thanks so much for sending the information. Can't wait to get it. Should get here in enough time for several listenings. :)

Rev. Avery,

I dug out mine tonight and listened to it for the first time this season. I think you'll appreciate the many different styles that he plays around with from song to song. It's very easy listening. Heck, I got a whole stack of papers graded just now, thanks to Richard Stoltzman.

I met him twice, about ten years apart (at college and at the Kennedy Center). He's a really nice guy who took the time to converse with me, a nobody from the audience, and graciously agreed to sign my program both times.

Hope your Christmas is Merry!

PS. Hey Mark (please chill out) and GBK:

I also post on another message board (not related to music.) Sometimes we bump posts up for the very reason that this one was--so others can see it and reply. I realize this board sees heavy traffic. I don't visit it daily, and I never would've seen it (and have been of use to the Rev. and now maybe others, too) if it wasn't brought back to the first page.

You're welcome, Rev. Avery! [grin]
I also didn't realize there were as many smilies as there are on here, and I looked them up after I saw yours!

I was surprised that nobody else on here would come up with the answer. Maybe they interpreted your title like I originally did, meaning, "Since it's Christmastime, what are your favorite clarinet parts to play?" or something like that.

Someone even knows Stolzman on here, but I forget where I read it.

At any rate, Merry Christmas, and check this out:
